An Overview of the Originals

Table of contents

Creating movement, setting new impulses – we focus on having the finger on the pulse of the market and continuous exchange with experts, as well as the tenacity to make good ideas a reality and manufacturing premium quality products. These are the reasons why TOGU is synonymous for innovation and a pioneering spirit. As a result, 12 patents, 34 utility models, and more than 100 trademarks have been created since the company was founded.

ABS®
Everybody knows that the large gym ball and sitting ball is perfectly suited for training back and torso muscles, and for promoting a back-friendly seated posture in everyday life. Not everybody is aware of the fact that traditional gym balls can suddenly burst under strain.
Toni Obermaier had an idea to eliminate this safety risk, when, during a visit to the US in the mid-1990ies, he watched a weight lifter on a simple large gym ball training in a prone position with a 100 kg barbell over his head. It was that very moment when it became clear to him that a special material was needed to prevent dangerous accidents. The material would, however, have to maintain the beneficial properties of the training device, and not infringe upon its dynamics.
That is how the patented Anti Burst material (Pat.No. 4434889.4, U.S.Pat.No. 5766707) and the world’s first non-bursting gym ball was created in Prien, near Lake Chiemsee. From that moment on, this new gym ball became the first choice in terms of safety when sitting or training on large gym balls.

AERO-STEP®
The idea for developing Aero-Step XL came to Toni Obermaier in the late 1990ies after a visit to an orthopaedic specialist. He had recommended a lot of barefoot walking on the beach at Lake Chiemsee to strengthen the arch of the foot. He decided to develop an air-filled training tool which would have the same effect and could be used indoors in the colder season.
Aero-Step, which was then known as the Get-On Foot Trainer, was born.
The double-chamber system proved ideal as a unstable training tool not only for physiotherapeutic purposes, but also for amateur and professional athletes. Today, Aero-Step can be found in many households as a practical training tool for use at any time. Physiotherapy clinics, gymnastics and sports clubs, as well as many top-ranked athletes have long since adopted it as standard equipment.

BALANZA®
The Balanza product family is based on Balanza technology, and represents one of the innovative new developments by TOGU. The innovative idea was to create a fixed, resilient, and user-friendly connection with one or more balls and a wooden plate. This type of “floating” instability has proven useful for various therapeutic and training areas, and the range currently comprises six products.

DYNAIR® BALLKISSEN®
Two of the strongest TOGU brands: Dynair and Ballkissen. TOGU invented Ballkissen, and launched the first air-filled sitting cushion to the market on the mid-1990ies. Both terms, Dynair and Ballkissen, stand for patented (EP 0705549) inventions as alternatives for a large gym ball. As a sitting cushion or training tool: the original Dynair Ballkissen represents design perfection, easy handling, extreme longevity, and efficacy for the user.
It is tested and recommended by the German “Healthy Back Initiative” (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.) and has become standard equipment in (virtually) every physiotherapy clinic. Its space-saving design makes it ideal for use at home.

JUMPER®
TOGU Jumper hit the market in 2008 as one of the most versatile training and therapy tools ever invented by TOGU. Combining a fixed plate and a dynamic, air-filled ball with trampoline effect that would be both safe and effective for the user was a great technical challenge. The market had already seen half-balls mounted on a board at that time, which is why the true innovation of this product lies in the patented (EP 2092964) method of how this connection was implemented.

REDONDO®
Redondo is Spanish, and simply means “round.” Just as simple and therefore incredibly successful over the years, is this folding ball.
It is very user-friendly, it can be inflated and deflated without the need for a pump, and it is light-weight despite its impressive load-bearing capacity of up to 110 kg. All these aspects have made Redondo the success it is today.

BONITO®
Bonito – as the name suggests, this little workhorse is both cute and friendly. It has delighted countless children and continues to be a popular favourite for the kids. Even the littlest hands find a firm grip on Bonito’s ears for an exhilarating ride.
A Bonito is a perfect gift for any child, and it helps to promote health – what could be better than that?

Surgery is always a challenge for the body. Whether it is the knee, hip, shoulder or spine – every procedure means stress for the tissue, a phase of immobilization and then the arduous reconstruction. What many do not know: How well the body regenerates after surgery depends decisively on how well it was prepared beforehand. This is exactly where prehabilitation comes in – the preoperative phase in which targeted training sets the course for a better healing process.

A strong back does not happen by chance. It develops through regular, well-dosed movement – and through exercises that target exactly where we often do too little in everyday life: stability, mobility, and conscious body awareness. Back exercises do not have to be complicated or time-consuming. Just a few minutes a day can provide noticeable relief and offer long-term protection.

As the days get longer and temperatures rise, we are almost automatically drawn outside. The first hiking trails become accessible again, running shoes are ready, and the bicycle is waiting to finally be taken out of its winter rest. But as great as the motivation in spring may be – the body often needs a moment to find its rhythm again. This is exactly where the real preparation for the outdoor season begins: with stability, strength, and mobility.

Exercise builds strength: How we can encourage children to be more active through play
    TOGU | 15 April 2026
Children naturally move in a very instinctive way. They run, jump, climb, balance – and discover the world in the process. But in the everyday life of many families, reality looks different: long periods of sitting at school, homework, digital media, and a tightly scheduled daily routine often cause natural movement to shrink. Yet movement is not only important for physical development, but also for concentration, self-confidence, and emotional stability.

Getting started with training does not begin with perfection, but with a simple principle: consistency beats intensity. Especially in everyday life, which is often full, hectic, and unpredictable, movement quickly becomes secondary. Yet this is exactly where the key lies: When movement becomes a natural part of your day, not only your body changes – but your overall well-being as well.

Heavy Legs? – How the TOGU Senso Vein Trainer can help
    TOGU | 2 March 2026
Heavy legs, feelings of tension, or tired calves in the evening – many people are familiar with this unpleasant problem. Those who sit or stand a lot, or who get little exercise, quickly notice that their legs become heavy and swollen. The cause can sometimes be a weakness in venous function: the blood doesn't flow back optimally, it pools in the legs – and this leads to the typical feeling of heaviness.

In my daily work with horses and dogs, one aspect is always at the center of my approach: functional movement, body awareness, and sustainable stability. As a physiotherapist and osteopath, I do not work in a purely symptom oriented way, but focus on underlying causes. The goal is to restore physiological balance and support the body’s natural ability for self regulation. It is precisely at this point that the products of TOGU Animal come into use.
