Functional therapy at Medical Park

The Medical Park Chiemsee hospital is a recognised rehabilitation hospital for the specialist areas of orthopaedics, traumatology and applied sports medicine. It offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options.

The hospital is the centre for sports medicine and applied performance diagnostics of the Bavarian Olympic base, licensed by the German Sports Federation. Top athletes from all winter sports, athletics and motor sports, such as Ronny Ackermann or Anni Friesinger-Postma are regular guests.
Within the frame of co-operation with the family business and training equipment manufacturer TOGU, which has been producing high quality, functional solutions for rehabilitation and therapy nearby since 1956, the therapists at Medical Park Chiemsee hospital work on sensorimotor functions, co-ordination and balance with their patients. When required, a therapist will introduce the equipment to the treating therapists.

By developing ADL Training, the Medical Park Group has been a trendsetter in the field of rehabilitation. The content of this training is re-learning the activities of daily living. Amongst other things, it is about regaining a secure feeling in activities at home as well as behaviour in traffic – whether as a pedestrian or driver – or realistically practising shopping.
With ADL Training as part of their Medical Park rehabilitation, patients find returning to daily life easier. Patients recover their freedom of movement, their confidence and therefore their love of life.

Balance Parcours with dynamic, i.e. moving surfaces is an important component in this process.

The advantages are clear to the therapists: The equipment delivers the initial activity when, for example, the patient is sitting on a Ballkissen and receives the task of lifting his/her legs. Every movement on the unstable surface is experienced as new, leading to more motivation for the patients. This promotes creativity in both the therapists and the patients. Initially, the patients feel insecure but, during the several weeks of their stay, they have the opportunity of developing these skills in particular. Many recognise the use of these small training units and return home with this new knowledge and the exercises for everyday life. The Gait Circle and the Gait School are other areas where the balance equipment is used.
A safety check for this kind of training equipment is absolutely essential. When it comes to gym balls, for example, we attach great importance to balls that are guaranteed not to burst, even when they are damaged and being used dynamically.

The co-operation model with TOGU includes endurance testing of equipment during therapy use.

This means that valuable insights for further development of the concept are gained together. Additionally, training opportunities in the area of physiotherapy are implemented jointly.
In one-to-one physiotherapy sessions, simple to highly complex movements and tasks can be carried out with little equipment use for all patients, regardless of age and fitness level, using different kinds of progression. The relevant treatment can sometimes start straight after an operation, e.g. for stabilising the spine, while performance increase is the focus for the training of top athletes. Instructions from the therapist are accepted more readily and implemented as homework during everyday life. This “Training plan for at home” is recognised by the patients as an additional service and therefore appreciated.

Surgery is always a challenge for the body. Whether it is the knee, hip, shoulder or spine – every procedure means stress for the tissue, a phase of immobilization and then the arduous reconstruction. What many do not know: How well the body regenerates after surgery depends decisively on how well it was prepared beforehand. This is exactly where prehabilitation comes in – the preoperative phase in which targeted training sets the course for a better healing process.

Daily Back Exercises: More Strength, Less Tension, Better Body Awareness

A strong back does not happen by chance. It develops through regular, well-dosed movement – and through exercises that target exactly where we often do too little in everyday life: stability, mobility, and conscious body awareness. Back exercises do not have to be complicated or time-consuming. Just a few minutes a day can provide noticeable relief and offer long-term protection.

Get Fit for Spring Outings: Stability & Strength for Hiking, Running, and Cycling

As the days get longer and temperatures rise, we are almost automatically drawn outside. The first hiking trails become accessible again, running shoes are ready, and the bicycle is waiting to finally be taken out of its winter rest. But as great as the motivation in spring may be – the body often needs a moment to find its rhythm again. This is exactly where the real preparation for the outdoor season begins: with stability, strength, and mobility.

Children naturally move in a very instinctive way. They run, jump, climb, balance – and discover the world in the process. But in the everyday life of many families, reality looks different: long periods of sitting at school, homework, digital media, and a tightly scheduled daily routine often cause natural movement to shrink. Yet movement is not only important for physical development, but also for concentration, self-confidence, and emotional stability.

Getting started with training does not begin with perfection, but with a simple principle: consistency beats intensity. Especially in everyday life, which is often full, hectic, and unpredictable, movement quickly becomes secondary. Yet this is exactly where the key lies: When movement becomes a natural part of your day, not only your body changes – but your overall well-being as well.

Heavy Legs? – How the TOGU Senso Vein Trainer can help
    TOGU | 2 March 2026
Heavy legs, feelings of tension, or tired calves in the evening – many people are familiar with this unpleasant problem. Those who sit or stand a lot, or who get little exercise, quickly notice that their legs become heavy and swollen. The cause can sometimes be a weakness in venous function: the blood doesn't flow back optimally, it pools in the legs – and this leads to the typical feeling of heaviness.

In my daily work with horses and dogs, one aspect is always at the center of my approach: functional movement, body awareness, and sustainable stability. As a physiotherapist and osteopath, I do not work in a purely symptom oriented way, but focus on underlying causes. The goal is to restore physiological balance and support the body’s natural ability for self regulation. It is precisely at this point that the products of TOGU Animal come into use.

When nature awakens, the sun shines longer and temperatures rise, for many people the most beautiful time of the year begins: running season. Whether ambitious runners or recreational joggers – the first run after winter often feels liberating. But especially now, it is crucial not to simply throw the body “in at the deep end,” but to prepare it in a targeted way. Joints, muscles, and fascia need activation and care so that the joy of running lasts for a long time.

Menopause is a phase of life that every woman experiences – and one that is often accompanied by many changes. Hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood swings, weight gain, or an altered body awareness are among the typical companions. At the same time, it is a phase in which women can gain an enormous amount: more body awareness, more strength, more stability, and a new understanding of their own needs.
